Pool Water Care

Swimming Pool Water Care: Simple Keys To Make It Dazzle! [Guide]

Looking after the water in your pool can feel like an intimidating job, but it doesn’t have to be. While there is a bit of a learning curve you’ll find that if you follow certain procedures on a regular basis it will soon become a piece of cake.

Check out the instructions in this handy blog post and you’ll be on your way to enjoying your swimming pool experience.

What do I do if I find algae growing in my pool?

Algae can be a bit tricky to get rid of and requires an intensive treatment to ensure it is completely killed and cleaned up so it does not return.

The Dazzle™ algae destruction method is designed to be an easy-to-use, highly effective way to destroy algae problems with one application, including clearing up the water. It alleviates the need for messy, hard-to-use flocculants and filter aids, saving you time and frustration. The Dazzle™ method does not waste water and does not require a lot of work. Just apply the products and let them do their thing!

Check out this great tutorial that describes the process involved in getting rid of algae in your pool.

Why is my pool cloudy?

Cloudy water can be caused by a number of things including low sanitizer, high pH, early algae growth, poor filtration or circulation, combined chlorines, and heavy rains.  To identify the problem bring a water sample in to the store and request a FREE custom computer analysis.  The water care experts can then help you identify the most likely cause of the clouding and the best treatment process.

Help I have an ugly stain!

There are few things more annoying than an unsightly stain on your backyard pool oasis.  Let us help you determine the type of stain and best treatment process.  It is always helpful to have pictures of the stain as well as a water sample to help identify metals that may be present in the water.

Is there some way to prevent red and irritated eyes?

There are a couple of things that can contribute to irritated eyes after swimming, including improperly balanced pH, alkalinity, chlorine or chloramines.  If everything is balanced well and you are still experiencing discomfort it is worth considering using Performance Plus to enhance your bathing experience.  Performance Plus creates the softest feeling water which is so gentle on the eyes and skin.  It also promotes a more stable pH balance and the most sparkling blue water you have ever seen!

Do I need to shock my pool every week?

Yes, over the period of the week your pool will build up combined chlorines (or chloramines) which create discomfort and strong chemical odours.  There are a couple different ways to shock though and it is worth talking to your water care expert to determine which might be best for you.  Our summer pool kits always include our favorite shock called Amaze Plus which not only helps to break down any combined chlorines in the water but also helps to clarify and create dazzling water!

Why is the pH of the water so important?

pH is the measure of acidity in the pool water. Your pool’s pH should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8. A low pH means that the water is acidic and will dry out your liner, eat away at any stainless steel and copper parts of your pool, as well as cause irritation to swimmer’s eyes and skin. High pH can cause cloudy water and ineffective sanitizer.  pH can be easily tested for and is inexpensive to adjust.  For help in determining what adjustments to make, just bring in a sample of the pool water and our water care experts would be happy to help you.
